68414: I have a very similar theory - remember how in Love Hina, Naru was an expy of his wife? After that, his wife mostly gave up being an idol, had a brief interlude as a net cosplay idol, and probably now spends most of her time at home on the computer (or at least that's what we hope for Akamatsu's sake). It matches perfectly to Chisame's initial description, and then what we're told about her in the epilogue.0

For anyone still not liking that Negi picked Chisame. Negi, like Keitaro from Love Hina, has always been something of a "Mary Sue." Meaning he is something of a self insert of the author himself. Chisame has always been Ken Akamatsu's favorite girl, so its only natural she would end up being Negi's favorite too. Story wise, its also more convenient to make Chisame his chosen girl because other than Eva or Asuna, any of the girls would have accepted his feelings and they would have ended up together.1

Ken Akamatsu always did like boiling fights down to a simple drawn out slugfest. Even as far back as "Love Hina." Although there Keitaro only dreamed up his fight with Seta to win Naru. We also saw slug fests with Negi fighting Rakan, and somewhat with Negi fighting Chachamaru to apprentice under Eva.0

Chisame lampshades the lack of foreshadowing (although, there was plenty of it; he always had a certain fondness and preference for her, which she never understood). The girls then argue that it must be because she was the mature one. In the end my only problem is that we were told Chisame becomes an inveterate NEET, so this must have been doomed from the start (and being a NEET, and the NEET activities she was into before, suggests she is very far from mature). All in all, he's 11. Boy's gotta like whatever he likes.0

It feels like the author only had Negi pick her for the shock value and nothing else. Which would explain why she rejected him in no uncertain terms. It's such a waste. It would have been better if the author had him pick somone where he would have actually ended up happy. That crappy backstory is not interesting, it's infuriating.0
