That said Yukio has been willing to accept help before, but that tends to only happen if the matter is relatively unimportant to him so he can actually think calmly about the issue (like when he asked Rin to help him exorcise the plant demon in the garden), it's in a professional function so refusal to cooperate would only give him a reputation of being difficult to work with, or he's called out on his behaviour and he manages to temporarily overcome his usual stubbornness.0

Rin also has a tendency to do things himself even when it would be better to work together but the motivation behind his decisions is completely different. Yukio refuses help no matter who it's from because... Well, the more I read about him the more I feel like he just can't make himself trust anyone but himself. Those who are competent enough to help aren't trustworthy and those who are trustworthy enough aren't capable of helping, and beyond that there also seems to be a layer of him wanting to prove to himself that he doesn't 'need' help. He's distrustful, filled with anxiety and other issues and above everything else he doesn't want to be weak. When Rin declines help or does things by himself he does it either because he believes the help isn't actually needed, he wants to keep everyone else out of harm's way or there's circumstances like him not wanting to show his flames involved. Of course Rin's judgement calls aren't always correct either but his motivations are more sensible and show that he's got a better grip on his priorities.0

@68412 I agree that most of his portrayal is actually pretty well done, since it's not surprising that in his situation Yukio would be more of a wreck than Rin. The main issue I have is that even before he snapped he was refusing help from all sides. Of course that can also be considered part of his portrayal but personally I find that both an irritating personality trait to deal with myself and to read about in stories. That doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong but I can understand why others would find it less pleasant to read about than the chapters which are focused on Rin, who despite his flaws is overall a very friendly and reasonable person.0

While I'm painfully aware that different people have different perspectives on issues and different limits I have to admit that the way that Yukio is going over the edge can be hard to follow. He's practically a child soldier who hasn't been allowed to know the why for many things despite his insistence so it isn't too strange that he would have difficulty coping, but the fact that he's doing his best to refuse any help offered is making it... less than interesting to read since even traumatized people can still ask for help so his refusal just makes him look very unreasonable. I'm not saying he doesn't have motivations for doing this himself, but I don't think they're the best motivations.0

Yukio has depression. He had to grow up too early. Burdened with a responsiblity too heavy for a child. Impulse control issues, suicidal tendency, and the inability to focus on anything else but the situation he is in. All he had going for him was the pride in the status he achieved with his own effort, and the responsibility of keeping his dangerious brother in check. Both of those crumbled now, he lost his place, his identity, and the hard work he put in seems to lead to nothing. I think his character portrayal is quite right. Also from another perspective: Satans plan(?) designating Rin as his successor while actually making Yukio his vessel is the kind of method you would expect of him.0

@68407 its because this turned into, "follow the edge-lord" they turned Yuki into some depressing fuckboy, he wasnt a good character to begin with, now he's just unbearable and the story is focusing in on his garbage.0

@68407 Maybe it's the part where it looks like Satan is about to possessed Yukio just like in the anime. that is kind of weak.0

I don't know why, but reading this chapter made me hate this series. Like, it seriously just made me hate it. I went from an "I enjoy reading this" mindset to "why is this such garbage?" mindset, and I can't even really place why that is.0

How does any of that make him wimpy, for god's sake? If you don't care about something, you don't care. Not wanting to know doesn't make you some sort of coward0
